Book review: The Body Keeps the Score
This book covers how trauma affects people, how it often follows people for the rest of their lives. How it changes the brain, and how people who’ve been affected by trauma change their behaviors in order to cope with the new reality. There’s a life before the traumatic event and often a completely new life after it. Friends disappear because they cannot relate. Normal people become ‘outsiders’ because they cannot understand. The book also contains lots of flabbergasting data, the failures of health care, and the pharmaceutical industry.
It’s hard to stop reading this book. I can recommend it to anyone. And if you’ve dealt with trauma, this book is a must-read. It’s scary how relatable many parts of the book are.December 26, 2020
